Alison Shaw

Printmaker
About the Artist

Alison Shaw is a printmaker and visual artist whose practice explores the relationships between text, image, language, and meaning. Her work is formally rigorous and conceptually sharp, drawing on literary and philosophical sources to create prints that invite close, slow reading. Shaw's engagement with language as a visual and material object has led her into rich territory at the intersection of contemporary printmaking and conceptual art. Her Ampersand Fellowship provided extended time in one of the world's most dynamic cultural environments, and shaped a practice that continues to evolve.

The Ampersand Fellowship

Since 1997, the Ampersand Foundation has sent more than 300 South African visual artists to a funded residency in Tribeca, New York — connecting them with one of the world's most dynamic art ecosystems.
