Gabrielle Goliath is a performance and video artist whose practice is grounded in a profound commitment to social justice. Her work addresses sexual violence, trauma, and the conditions of witness — creating immersive, ethically demanding spaces in which viewers are invited to sit with discomfort and engage with lives marginalised by power. Her long-running series Elegy, performed at major international venues, has established her as one of the most important voices in contemporary South African and global art. Her Ampersand Fellowship deepened her engagement with international human rights discourse and artistic practice.
The Ampersand Fellowship
Since 1997, the Ampersand Foundation has sent more than 300 South African visual artists to a funded residency in Tribeca, New York — connecting them with one of the world's most dynamic art ecosystems.
